Vanderhoof Community Labour Market Project

Community Futures Development Corporation-Stuart Nechako
Project Team is conducting labour market research in Vanderhoof

Is there a difference between what we think we know about labour shortages in Vanderhoof and what is actually happening? Finding out the answer is the job of the Community Futures-Stuart Nechako (CFDC-SN) project team.

The Vanderhoof Community Labour Market Partnership (VCLMP) project was initiated because many employers in Vanderhoof stated that they are experiencing difficulty hiring skilled labour, and like the rest of the province, they expect it to be a problem in the future.

The main goals of the VCLMP research are to provide hard numbers that will supply information such as:

  • What sectors are experiencing difficulties hiring, recruiting or retaining employees.
  • Specifically what jobs do employers need filled.
  • What are the available skills of community members in Vanderhoof.
  • And assist the community to build strategies to deal with labour issues.

These numbers will be obtained by conducting an employer survey of all businesses operating in the Vanderhoof area and a survey of community members between the ages of 15-59 who still expect to be employed in the next 5 to 10 years.

Results and analysis for the employer survey are anticipated to be available in October and the community member survey results should be available in November. The final project report will be available in January.
