The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is the Canadian national police service and an agency of the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada. The RCMP is unique in the world since it is a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body. They provide a total federal policing service to all Canadians and policing services under contract to the three territories, eight provinces (except Ontario and Quebec), approximately 198 municipalities and, under 172 individual agreements, to 192 First Nations communities.

Policing in Vanderhoof

The Vanderhoof detachment responds to many emergency situations, along with routine calls for service, and provides crime prevention programs with support from our many volunteers. The police officers and staff are dedicated to working with the Vanderhoof and surrounding areas.

The RCMP serves the community of Vanderhoof and area, including the Saik’uz First Nations reservation. The local detachment has 13 officers, one part time police-based victim services advocate, three clerks and seven casual commissionaires. The Vanderhoof detachment handles 4,000 files per year on average.

The RCMP Detachment police officer and staff are committed to working with the District, surrounding First Nations communities, and the various community groups, businesses and individuals to ensure that residents of District of Vanderhoof enjoy safe homes and safe communities.

After hours calls are routed through the Prince George detatchment, which then dispatches local officers on duty in Vanderhoof. There is an emergency call box at the front door.
