Sports and recreation are an integral part of the community. In the frosty chill of winter or the sizzling heat of summer, opportunities to stay fit and have fun are endless! You could say – our area is rich in recreation activities, both indoor and out.
Outdoor Recreation opportunities abound, as we have numerous lakes and rivers for canoeing, boating, hiking, watersports, and fishing. The Nechako River Runs through Vanderhoof and each spring and fall thousands of Canada Geese stop at our Migratory Bird Sancturary which is located along the Pacific Flyway. Forest Service Campsites, backcountry lodges, provincial parks and hundreds of miles of trail systems attract outdoor enthusiasts from all corners of the world who come to experience our aboundance of wildlife, spectacular waterways and wild, open spaces. We have a myriad of sports, equestrian and recreational facilities. From biatholon to classic cross country skiing, the Nechako Valley Sporting Association host Provincial Competitions and has raised world class athletes.
Vanderhoof Boasts a rich vaired cultural history form the Rich Hobson and Pan Philips Legacy to Mary John Senior, and Order of Candada recipient and Author.
Our vibrant Art scene inlcudes performers Karen Cruise and Marcel Gagnon, and artists Annerose Georgeson. The Nechako Valley Arts Council actively seeks first class Canaidan acts and offers an attractive line up of International and Canadian Films, with a Film Festival in Feburary. From dance to pottery to music, our community arts and recreation groups will fuel your creative spirit.
