The Fort St. James Community Forest contributed wood for the White Spruce Podium, which will be used at the Whistler Olympic Park for the Cross Country Skiing events.

The Olympic Torch will visit Fort St. James and Nak’azdli route communities on January 30, 2010. We urge everyone to come out and join in the Olympic spirit and cheer on the torch bearers!
Outdoor gatherings will begin at 7:30 am at both Spirit Square and Chief Kwah Memorial Hall. There will be hot drinks, merchandise giveaways and pre-relay speeches. The torch will stop briefly at these two locations for photo opportunity and ceremonies.

Following the relay, about 8:45 am, Nak’azdli Band and District of Fort St. James are co-hosting a celebration at Chief Kwah Memorial Hall. Breakfast will be served and live entertainment will be provided until approximately noon.
Details of the route of the torch through the community and the names of the torch bearers are not being released until shortly before January 30.

B.C. Minister of Forests and Range Pat Bell has announced a $2 million program to assist employed forestry workers and those ineligible for Employment Insurance benefits to upgrade their skills and training.
The program will serve 11 communities in the Omineca Beetle Action Coalition (OBAC) region, including Prince George, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Fort St. James and Smithers. Funding for the initiative comes from the Canada-B.C. Labour Market Agreement, a six-year, $396 million deal which provides funding for skills training.
