Current Planning & Development

The projects listed below are in various stages, from planning to completion. All of the projects have been funded through a variety of grants.

Fourth Street Upgrade

The District will be upgrading Fourth Street from HWY 16 to Nechako Avenue. The upgrades include new sidewalks, lighting, water and sewer lines and a new road.

Total cost of the upgrades is $5.2 million with funding from the Provincial and Federal Government totaling more than $3.5 million. It is expected that the project will start in June of 2009.

Downtown Revitalization Phase 2

Project Description: $882,150 upgrade to main street.

Our Partners: Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund, Western Diversification Canada, Northern Development Initiative Trust.

Airport Lighting and GPS System

Project Description: $1.6 million upgrade to the airport to allow for 24/7 landings and takeoffs.

The upgrades will allow medevac flights any time.

Our Partners: Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund, Western Diversification Canada, Northern Development Initiative Trust, Ministry of Transportation.

Historic Park

The District will development an Historic Park adjacent to the Vanderhoof Museum. The project will include parking for recreational vehicles, a washroom, picnic tables and much more. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2009.

Trail System

A new trail system connecting Riverside Park with the Vanderhoof Museum will be constructed. The project will start in the spring and be completed by the end of 2009.

Vanderhoof Flood Mitigative Works – Phase 1

Funded by Emergency Management BC the District is constructing a dike along the south side of the Nechako River. The project is expected to be completed in the early 2009.

Firehall Energy Upgrade

Funded through Gas Tax/Public Transit Management Services the District will install a new geothermal heating / cooling system. The project will be completed during the summer of 2009.
